Turn off and unplug

A great way to conserve energy is to turn off any electronic devices that you are not using. Avoid leaving the television on when you are not watching it. You should also power down computers if you are not actively using them. The same goes for lights; if you are not in a room turn off the lights. In addition to turning off lights, save on home energy information sources have indicated that unplugging any devices that don't need to be plugged in can be a great way to save energy and money. That toaster that you only use once a week that stays plugged in is sucking up energy and money, even when you are not using it. Unplug appliances and devices that you don't use on a regular basis.

Dial down your hot water heater

A nice hot shower is one of the great comforts in life; nothing feels better in the morning than jumping into a piping hot shower to get you invigorated. There are also not many things that excessively waste energy than having your hot water heater set to an excessively high temperature. By simply dialing down the temperature on your hot water heater, you can keep it from using up unneeded energy. This is not to say that you can't take hot showers, just turn down the heat a little bit. Doing so will save a lot of your valuable home energy resources.

Insulate well to save energy

Whether you are cooling your house or heating it, insulation should be a top concern. If your house is poorly insulated, you are effectively letting precious energy seep right out of your house. Having sufficient insulation will help to keep the heat in on the cold days and the cool air in on the hot days. Insulating your house will cost some money, but the long-term gains in saving energy and money will offset any up front costs that you have to pay.

Switch to CFL bulbs

A great save on home energy information tip is to change out your light bulbs for more efficient ones. CFL or compact fluorescent lightbulbs have been proven to be much more energy efficient than other bulbs. We all need to replace bulbs on a regular basis. As the need arises in your home, replace the old bulbs with new CFL bulbs. CFL bulbs are slightly more expensive, but the energy savings that they produce allow this bulbs to pay for themselves very quickly. CFL bulbs also have a longer life, which will be another great way for you to save money on household expenses – you won't be replacing bulbs every few months with CFL bulbs.

Saving energy by utilizing the steps mentioned is not only the right thing to do for the environment and future generations, it is also the smart thing to do for your finances. Left unchecked these little energy wasters combine to drain financial resources. Putting a stop to energy wasters is key to the future of this planet.
